About FNF Corruption
FNF Corruption is a fan-made mod for Friday Night Funkin' built around a single unsettling premise: a nameless infection is spreading through the game's world, turning familiar faces into something that barely remembers being human. Boyfriend and Girlfriend are among the first to fall, and from there the mod follows a small cast, Pico, Skid, Pump, and eventually a mysterious figure known as Null, as they try to outrun, contain, or simply survive what's happening to them.
When a mod's difficulty setting becomes a storytelling tool
Unlike a lot of horror-themed rhythm mods that lean on jump scares and gore for shock value, Corruption spends its time on slower dread: distorted character models, glitching backgrounds, and dialogue that hints at loss of control rather than spelling it out. Three demos are currently playable, each one picking up the story a few weeks further into the outbreak and raising the stakes both narratively and mechanically.
How to Play FNF Corruption
The basic rules remain the same as the original FNF, but Corruption adds a unique challenge in boss battles. Follow these steps to get started:
- Choose a game mode. Go to Story Mode to follow the storyline in order or Freeplay if you only want to practise a specific song.
- Choose a modchart level. Before each battle against Null, the game will ask you if you want to play at None, Simple, or Full difficulty. Beginners should choose None to get familiar with the song's rhythm first.
- Start the song. Press the note at the right time when the arrow touches the note-receiving circle at the top of the screen, matching the rhythm of your opponent's singing.
- Monitor your health bar. Missing a note or pressing at the wrong time will cause your health bar to drop towards your opponent; if your health is too low for too long, the song will restart.
- Gradually increase the difficulty. Once you've mastered the song's rhythm, try again at Simple and then Full difficulty to experience the dynamic modchart as designed in the original.
